DIFFERENCES

You can’t help but wonder sometimes were you before ONE, now split into TWO? Do you indeed have soul mate? Who is lost perhaps? OR does one merely make the best of situations and opportunities. You ponder will you ever find someone who can make you smell the honey in the air and discover colours you have never before seen. Some have felt it all and lost. Others searching still for a song. And yet some others have won. What awaits you?

Then in your life someone does appear. Someone with whom you find remarkable melodies and hues so bright it makes your heart bleed sometimes.

But after awhile, the novelty fades or dies. The colours remain but they don’t make your heart beat faster. The songs you both discovered still play but, they have become background noise. Differences appear, disagreements taunt you and you find yourself questioning...should i return to my days of solitude?

Your partner on the other hand stands strong, firm and true and unshakable in his or her commitment to you.

What you are left with now is but the promise of a comfortable life, a shoulder you know that will always be there, a pillar now matter what. A life with companionship.

Yet you now begin to deny yourself that love. Love has not changed it has only taken different form. You deny yourself that love not because you think you don’t deserve it but only cos you now want more.

But what more could you possibly want? And why would you want to go back a step back in love?

Yes it is great to love the same movies, the same band, to love the same restaurants to enjoy the same hobbies. At the end of the day will they be the reason for your love’s perseverance and survival? It is character, understanding, communication, kindness, understanding and most of all commitment that stands the test of time. Love’s intensity fluctuates but that not mean it is not there. One just has to constantly remember to listen to the music and see the colours you discovered together before.

Differences make a partnership stronger. Don’t let them be the cause of love’s demise.
